Malibu & SKY H1
In the past year, French producer Malibu released the awe-inspiring EP ‘Palaces of Pity’: a 5-track record on which music takes on the shape of water. Emotive, expansive and perfectly blurry, the artist born Barbara Braccini uses the duality of stillness and turbulence as inspiration to produce music that ebbs and flows, and splashes over the constraints of time. In a similar way, her NTS show ‘United in Flames’ sails between ambient and ethereal music. Inspired by soft reverbed vocals and melodious chord progressions, Malibu’s music is an immersive nostalgic journey in a sea of synthetic strings and choirs. At Dekmantel ’23, Malibu will join forces with Sky H1, the Belgian producer whose work on labels like Creamcake and PAN/Codes blurs the lines between drum & bass, grime, dubstep, techno and bursts of pop. Fully in line with Malibu’s oceanic approach, Sky H1’s debut album is called ‘Azure’ and pays tribute to her mother through the powerful push and pull of art-meets-club soundscapes.
