Back in 2018, acclaimed British DJ/producer James Holden and Polish multi-instrumentalist Wacław Zimpel teamed up for the first time, exploring the improvisational intersection between electronic and acoustic music. The resulting ‘Long Weekend’ EP pits Holden’s handmade modular synth rig against Zimpel’s expressive alto clarinet, supplemented by organ, voice, guitar, and percussion. What binds these two artists is their love of all things hypnotic, immersive, and trance-inducing—whether found in global strains of folk music, 20th-century minimalism, today’s dance music, or improvisational jazz. At Dekmantel Festival 2025, we’re hoping to hear lots of new, in-the-moment material from the duo, whose music always feels and sounds light-years ahead.
