Notorious for his eloquent and expansive sets, preferably with no end time, Freddy K has been a figurehead of Berlin techno since the ’90s. Born in Italy, Alessio Armeni quickly immersed himself in warehouses, radio shows, and sound systems, launching his dance music career at Sunday after-hours. Today, the self-described “techno activist” and KEY label founder is a strictly vinyl DJ who prides himself on his deviant selections, ranging from austere 4/4 techno to Chicago acid and new wave. Towards the end of the function—preferably after sunrise, or even at the second sundown—is when Freddy K truly hits his stride, keeping the groove alive and kicking in a way that’s relentless yet warm. Be sure to stick around for his finishing touch.
